Access to professional development remains one of the biggest barriers for aspiring artists with disabilities. At ART:DIS, we’re addressing this gap through BEYOND DIS:PLAY — a theatre training programme designed to cultivate the next generation of D/deaf, neurodivergent, and disabled performers.

Over a two-year immersive curriculum, 11 artists have honed their craft through mentorships with industry professionals, gaining technical and creative competencies that prepare them for sustainable careers in the arts. From in-depth scene work and character studies, to rigorous movement drills and vocal exercises, our artists dug deep to prepare for this stage, with each growing in confidence, discipline, and self-expression.

Guided by esteemed mentors — including Auderia Tan, Chiew Peishan, Claire Teo, Lim Chin Huat, Karen Tan, Nicole Shaan, Pat Toh, Peter Sau, Su Paing Tun, Tung Ka Wai, Verena Tay, and Yazid Jalil — their upcoming works are ones not to missed!

Double-bill Showcase 1 – 12 & 13 Nov (8pm) at ART:DIS @ Bukit Merah

the autocannibalism of the mind is an unfiltered view into the psyche of a person tormented by Borderline Personality Disorder, where his every relationship is a cycle of euphoria, insecurity and destruction. “No way for them to reach out beyond what they had already done until it was done. (It is finished.)” Would you break yourself out of a cycle of the greatest ecstasy even if you know that all that follows is devastation? What if it’s all you’ve ever known?

Of Dreams & Butterflies (梦是蝴蝶的翅膀) is a story about dreams and passions of persons with disabilities, performed in Mandarin with English & Mandarin captions. In a quiet corner of the city, inside a small and peculiar cafe, Kayla and Deon brew coffee for others while whispering their aspirations. One longs to be an artist, the other a radio host. Through expressive dance movement, the daughters honour their milestones and achievements — stepping into their own identities with strength and pride. Even in the absence of their mothers, their presence lingers, shaping every step forward. Uplifting and deeply personal, this work is a tribute to resilience, the right to be different, and the enduring power of family. It invites audiences into a moving journey of growth, reflecting on themes of love, courage and the dreams carried across generations.

Please Let Me Have This is a story about how three young women, stretched to the breaking point in their daily lives, cling to one thing that still makes them feel alive – the fan community around a hit fantasy sci-fi show. On impulse, they set off to watch their favourite actor perform. But the show’s official creator has just been accused of sexual assault. And as the trip spirals on, both that grim reality and the truths of their own lives catches up to them.

Desires of Wild Imagination is a multi-disciplinary performance blending poetry and visual arts. Ever wondered what it’ll be like to swim in chocolate lava? Or even admire the beauty of sunshine lemons? Or maybe have adventures in your sweet dreams about your favourite treats?

As Trevor journeys deeper into this dreamscape, the boundaries around him dissolve. Paint bleeds into words, poems speak in soundless motion, and dance bends gravity. The gallery transforms with each act – rooms melt, shadows whisper, and forgotten muses take form. Through every painting comes their own unique poem. All paintings come with their own story, adventure and music, letting you dare to dream. Come join the surreal fun!

The Other Side is a dramatised reading exploring themes of dignity, autonomy, and the profound complexity of love when confronted with the decision to let go. In a near future where assisted suicide has been legalised, Stephanie, a young woman with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, faces the painful choice of continuing a life of diminishing quality or opting for an assisted death. Her older sister, Janice, struggles deeply with the morality of her choice, reflecting on her own beliefs and their shared past. What does it mean to love someone who relies heavily on you? Who has control in a situation where control can’t be found? Who’s right, who’s wrong, does it matter in the end?

Through a tapestry of borrowed texts, original writings, and swordplay, this is the journey a woman takes as she finally confronts her deepest and darkest fears, vanquishes the demons that haunt her, and emerges a stronger warrior at the end.
